The Valencia CF coach's press conference ahead for the game against Real Racing Club de Santander

Valencia CF coach Javier Aguirre spoke to the media in a press conference ahead of the LaLiga EA Sports Matchday 8 fixture against Real Racing Club de Santander.

The squad list, absentees, and returning players

“We will announce the squad list today, but we haven't finalised it yet. There are three or four players about whom I still need to discuss with the medical staff. Rioja definitely won't make it in time, but Danjuma will.”

His assessment of the squad

“It’s a very good group. I hope the team are serious and hardworking tomorrow, and bold with the ball -seeking the win while always remaining organised. We’ll aim to find a balance. The squad has quality and need to go for the win.”

The team’s progress

“What makes me happiest is that players have been recovering and that we have almost everyone available.”

The team’s progress

“What pleases me most is that players are recovering; we have almost everyone available.”

Morale

“Morale is very high; the team are eager to play and feeling stronger. We’re ready to get out on the pitch, and the feeling is good -both mentally and physically. We’ll field a competitive, reliable team.”

Confidence in VCF Academy players

“I don’t look at age, but rather at quality. The players earn their spots week by week, and whoever plays does so because they deserve it. It doesn’t matter to me if they’ve played one match or two hundred. If they train well during the week, they play. If this club has one thing going for it, it’s an excellent youth academy. I look at the mural featuring VCF Academy players who have become internationals, and it’s incredible to see how many there have been.”

Identity

“My teams are characterised by lots of running and a fighting spirit. If there’s a common thread, it’s that we never let our guard down; we always give every last drop of sweat, leaving nothing in reserve. You’ll never see an apathetic team from me.”

Ryunosuke Sato

“I’ve watched Valencia CF’s seven matches. I really appreciated the gesture of him coming back early from Japan. Any player who wants to contribute is welcome. I really like his attitude. He’s an electric player. I’ve spoken with him; he’s learning English and Spanish quickly. I’m happy with him. Hopefully, he’ll find his place on the pitch and perform at his best.”

The formation

“The players are very dynamic. We’ve tried different approaches and looked at various things to get to know the players better and get the best out of them.”

Harvey Elliott

“I’m fortunate enough to be able to communicate in his language. He looks sharper; he’s also working with a private nutritionist. I’m delighted with his attitude, and he has great quality. We need to get the best out of him. He’s in great shape and ready to play.”

The fans

“People who recognise me have greeted me very warmly. They are full of anticipation and excitement.”
